The Bronsons and Thomas's were not around (at their inlaws), so the rest of us grownups (minus Kathy & Terry) went to the movies and saw Mission Impossible 4. When we got out, it was almost 7 pm. My kids were the only grandkids around that night, and I was determined to have some sort of nativity or talking to about Christmas. On the way home from the movies, we drove through McDonalds and got them Happy Meals (which I never really get them) and I got on my phone and ordered pizza for us (which I only mention because we were all laughing so hard in the car that I had tears down my face and I had to tell the pizza guy on the phone multiple times how sorry I was because I literally couldn't get the words out of my mouth we were laughing so hard). We also got a game plan for getting home and pulling out a quick improptu nativity program.
This is what we came up with. Joseph, Mary, and an angel:
Josi kept changing characters as she saw fit, so really, throughout the program she was an angel, baby Jesus, and a second Mary.
Terry read the account from Luke, and stopped and directed us which songs to sing in between verses. Here is Owen doing the actions to Away in a Manger.
I was the donkey.
Terry improvised at one point so that we could act out the innkeeper turning them away. Kyle was the innkeeper. And please notice his senior picture framed behind him. It's hilarious. Also, Josi was baby Jesus at this point.
Tera didn't know she was in it until we told her to stand up with the crutch and pretend to be a shepard. We'll have to put more prep in next year. haha.
My angel visiting the shepards.
The 3 wise men. Ty tried hardest, CJ drapped some cloth around his arm?? and Kyle put in no effort. At least they have gifts for baby Jesus. I mentioned this was super impromptu right?! haha. I was so glad that we did though, and the kids had fun and we had some nice moments.
After the nativity, we gave them each one present to open.
The girls also got matching PJs. Sorry boys, not included. Kaci's missing here, but we got another picture the next morning.
That night, when the kids said their prayers, Owen said, "Please help Santa to bring me...(long pause) bless that Jesus can have a good birthday!" And Kate said, "Please bless that tomorrow can be SUPER EXCITING!" also after mentioning Jesus. It was cute.
