Sad baby

Today was a hard day. I took Josi to an orthopedic doctor here to follow up after seeing the doctor in Utah. I thought she was either going to get her cast off or just have to have it on for another 10 days. Instead, they took the cast off, put a splint on that goes from her ankle to half way up her back, and told me she has to wear it for 2 and a half weeks, no crawling, no putting pressure on it, nothing. Oh, and it goes right up her right bum. He told me to put the diaper on TOP of it and that I just have to clean it when she pees and poops on it... like, every time. I can take it off once a day for a bath and to check her skin. Well, she peed on it once today and I said "screw that," took the whole thing off, put the diaper on under it and rewrapped her. I guess I'll just be doing that a million times a day. And she bucks every time I do it.

Oh, and they informed me that they have to call CPS too. Did I mention that? Apparently most femur breaks for 1-4 year olds are from child abuse and when they see a femur break Oregon law says they have to report it. That part was awesome. I tried real hard to keep it together. I don't think I was entirely successful.

Josi was so sad all afternoon and couldn't get comfortable and wouldn't nap. Finally we put her in a bath (the first she's had in 2 weeks due to her cast) and she was in there for half hour just as happy as can be. I totally broke down watching her because she is just my adventurous and spirited little girl and it makes me so sad that she's had to suffer. She just doesn't understand why I can't let her crawl and walk around and I keep having to wrap this dang thing around her leg. It's so sad. Spirits around here are a little low. I feel like it might be a REALLY REALLY long 3 weeks.

They put hard fiberglass cast material on the bottom side of her leg up her back, and then ace bandaged it to keep it there. This is supposed to lend more support to the upper femur where the break is, but it seems way less stable to me. I guess we'll see. The diaper was on the outside of that big bump, so the pee didn't even hit the diaper but just ran right out of that. Unbelievable.

Umm...holy cow, what a pain, that's going to be miserable for both of you. I am so sorry about cps too, that really stinks. Honestly, I am so sorry that it's going to be such a long few weeks.

seriously i would have lost it right there if they told me they had to call cps. so are they going to have to come out to your house and all that crap? oh man that sounds AWFUL. oh man the whole thing sounds like the worst. Can you talk your momma into coming and staying with you? That's what I would be doing, begging my mom to come for two weeks!

The nurse told me that cps just has to follow up on it. They may call me, maybe visit me, or maybe I'll never hear from them. She said her son got hurt once and she was reported and they never even called her. So we'll see. And my moms going to be in Mexico for the next month! It's okay. She won't go to anyone else anyway. And ash- yes they were super yummy.

OHH Sam, I am feeling so sad for you and Josi. I hope the next couple weeks go by quick. I couldn't imagine trying to keep a toddler off her feet for that long. CPS??? now that is funny, i would have a hard time keeping my composer.

Sam, I am so sorry. Message me your ortho's name. I bet it is the one we had for Lexi, I should have warned you. Glad you got your water back on though. Please let me know what I can do to help! Hope things get better soon.

So Sorry Sam! That just stinks. Don't you just wish you could go to Mazatlan with all the Aunts and Uncles?! I hope the next few weeks fly by quickly and things are on the up and up!

Hang in there!

That is horrible Sam. So sorry! Poor Josi - she looks adorable though and I love picturing her in the bath. My babies are happiest in the bath too. Could play forever if the water stayed warm for that long.

Hope the next 3 weeks go by fast for you!
